It was my first time flying Qatar Airways. It was no wonder they were dubbed one of the best Airlines in 2016. Here are eight reasons why I enjoyed:
This is what happens when you get a good fare that others sleep on! Around this time in 2016, I booked a flight for $430 including insurance from NYC to South Africa and then from South Africa to Frankfurt.
They took good care of me
This lady above in the picture was the primary flight attendant who looked out for me. They walked by many times during serving time, and I never felt ignored if I needed something. I was actually either woken up or food was place on an empty tray if I fell asleep. Not sure if it was skin color thing, but nonetheless she was kind and compassionate and I am grateful!
I was super excited about this care package. This was my first impression as to how much they care about their passengers. The plane was so empty; I was able to grab two of them! To use on the plane, that does not offer these! It includes earplugs, eye mask, and facial wipes.
Free, healthy, food
The key thing about this airlines is that it is Islamic which means there will be no pork served at all! That was so convenient for me when choosing meals because I already do not eat pork. We were served three meals-breakfast, lunch/snack, dinner and they were tasty too.
When it was nighttime in the airplane, it wasn’t completely dark or dim either; they had awesome fluorescent lights that turned purple, which also appeared to be Qatar’s colors.
Less time needed to board and check in
When leaving from NYC, I didn’t give myself much preparation for the delays that could happen or me getting lost along the way by taking the train from Harlem to Queens, but I got there about 30 minutes before boarding time. Even though they say to get there two hours before your flight, luckily I was not checking a bag, because I would have been in trouble! The people ahead of me were arguing with the attendants about checking luggage and even re-packing their luggage due to being overweight.
They give you enough time to in between layovers
It wasn’t enough time for a stopover tour, which they give you as a courtesy if you have at least 3 hours in between flights, but I had sufficient time to go thru the security checkpoints and relax. I could have eaten at the many eateries in the Doha airport if I wanted to, but I’d rather wait until I had the opportunity to immerse myself into Qatar cuisine fully.
The smaller plane wasn’t so bad
The layover in Doha required up to switch planes because it was a shorter route, we had a smaller sized plane. It felt tighter, only because it was a full plane, but otherwise it had good movies, delicious food, and excellent customer service.
I may have missed it, but even if there were bad weather out, I wouldn’t even notice because there was absolutely no turbulence and no hard take-off or landing! Talk about great pilots and a great plane!
As I stated earlier, my flight was less than $500. As always stay on the lookout because they run great deals pretty often such as the annual Travel Festival they held this past January. They fly to over 150 destinations! Their goal is to launch the longest flight from Los Angeles to New Zealand! I already know that it’s going to be a comfortable ride! Especially since in between screens they encourage you to get up and walk around and stay hydrated for the long haul.
If you are not a One World Alliance credit card holder, they do have a reward points systems!
You should apply for that as soon as you book your Qatar flight! Rack up those points!
If you are not familiar with racking up miles through credit cards, that is another conversation!
Next time you’re flying international, choose Qatar!
