It’s that time again! If you are new here, I have begun a series in January where I feature young, Black and Hispanic Women who travel while running their own businesses.
If you are not new here, you may have noticed a pattern. Now we are trying things a little differently: Meet Malikah, a fashion blogger who travels a little on the side. She has been to one of my favorite places in South Africa. Let’s learn more about the latest Aspire to Inspire Guest Interviewee.
Tell us about yourself. What do you do?
I'm a fashion marketer and run a fashion, beauty, lifestyle and travel blog on the side for fun. I've been working in marketing for almost a decade now and I absolutely love my field. It's fun, dynamic, and creative; so perfect for me. I started the blog to give myself another creative outlet and it's been a really amazing journey. I'm grateful for all the talented creative people I've met and collaborated with on this journey.
What city do you hail from and what do you like most about your hometown?
I'm from NYC and there is no city like it. I love the energy and endless novelty of the NYC life. Though I have to admit, we are incredibly spoiled, which would make it really hard to live anywhere else.
Where were your favorite places to travel to in the world and why?
I've been lucky enough to see so many amazing places! I love traveling through Spain and when I lived in Italy for grad school, I found any excuse to visit for a weekend. Seville is one of my favorite cities in the world. I recently came back from an amazing trip to Cartagena, Colombia which is such a picturesque city full of the most beautiful energy. Cape Town, South Africa is another favorite; the scenic views are out of this world and it is one of few places where you can find adventure, beaches, hiking, and rich history all in one.
Why do you think it is important to travel?
Travel has enriched my life more than I can express. Connecting with different cultures and worldviews has helped shape the woman I've become and the memories that I've built and experiences I have are absolutely priceless. I've seen so much beauty in this world. Once you get the travel bug, you develop an insatiable appetite for more. You keep feeding it and keep growing, learning and experiencing more. It has really helped me become a whole and happy person.
What do you want your legacy to be?
I'm still figuring that out, to be honest. Ultimately I know that it will revolve around giving back because I have been given so much.
Anything else you would like to add for those who want to travel but aren't sure how to?
Just do it! The biggest factors that I believe hold people back from travel are fear, finances, or not having friends or family to go with. Throw away those excuses and make it happen while you can. Find deals, go on group trips, or solo, but make it happen. The world is too wonderful for you to miss seeing.
Well, there you have it! Thanks, Malikah! I was definitely inspired, were you?
