As a part of my, Aspire to Inspire interview series, meet Nicole. She has traveled to 40+ countries. She has an incredible energy about her. I can tell why she enjoys teaching abroad. Let’s learn more about her.
Tell us about yourself. What do you do?
Hi, everyone! My name is Nicole Brewer, and I'm the Co-Founder of the I Luv 2 Globe Trot site and community. I'm an English teacher abroad by day, currently based in Oman, and a travel blogger and freelance writer by night. I've been living abroad for over eight years teaching and recently self-published a book entitled: "A Guide to Landing an English Teaching Job Abroad." The I Luv 2 Globe Trot site has been featured in numerous publications including National Geographic Travel, BBC Travel, Essence magazine and more.
What city do you hail from and what do you like most about your hometown?
I am originally from Detroit, Michigan, even though I haven't called it my home in over a decade. I feel that Detroit molded me into the business-minded, grinder that I am today. I like the heart of the city of Detroit most. It's been through a lot through the years, and I'm proud of the transition and work that is being done to get it back on track.
Where were your favorite places you traveled to in the world and why?
This is always a tough question for me. I've traveled to over 40 countries in total. By far some of my favorite places I've been to are South Africa, where I studied and did an internship for three months apart of my MA program and Jordan. South Africa has a special place in my heart. I loved the spirit of South Africans and the diversity that is there. The food is amazing, incredible culture and history. Being there for three months still wasn't enough time for to truly take in all of its beauty.
As far as Jordan, that place was just magical for me. Floating in the Dead Sea was an incredible experience for a non-swimmer like me, and Wadi Rum and Petra are hands down some of the most beautiful and peaceful landscapes I've ever seen.
Why do you think it is important to travel?
Traveling and seeing the world has truly changed my life for the better. Living abroad has opened me up to so many incredible opportunities and the chance to meet people from all different walks of life. I feel that travel is educational and advise everyone to experience going to a different country, somewhere that you barely speak the language. Learn to communicate in other ways, immerse yourself in the culture of the local people and learn so much about them, as well as yourself.
What do you want your legacy to be?
I want my legacy to be that I inspired others to live their best life and see the world.
Any piece of advice for those who want to travel but aren't sure how to?
Don't be afraid to try a different route and routine from what you know. It may be the best decision you ever made.
