Each week, the featured ladies get more interesting! If you are new here, I have begun a series called Aspire to Inspire since January where I feature young, Black and Hispanic Women who travel while running their own businesses. Let’s learn about Rachael!
Tell us about yourself. What do you do?
I'm Rachael D, creator of Golden Flourish, a wellness brand with a focus on providing ways for women of color to remember to nurture themselves. Through my brand, I have been able to work as a health and wellness coach as well as provide herbal tea blends for women to continue their wellness and self-care outside of coaching. I am also a doula.
What city do you hail from and what do you like most about your hometown?
I hail from Brooklyn, New York and love how culturally rich that it is. I am able to come into contact with people from various backgrounds and so many different cultural foods.
Where were your three favorite places to travel to in the world and why?
Jamaica is high on my list of favorites due to it being a part of my cultural background. Whenever I visit Jamaica, it has allowed me to be reconnected with myself and my culture. It is home and is important to my personal journey through herbalism and my work in assisting women of color through wellness coaching.
Trinidad has been a country on my travel bucket list. I was fortunate to experience a Trinidadian carnival, the rich culture, and food. Here on my way to the beach, I was able to stop at what is called "lookout" and a miraculous feeling of gratitude poured over me and through me. It was super beautiful.
Malaysia because it was my first time to Asia, and on my way there during a layover I experienced my grandfather who had transitioned, and I felt so much gratitude for the experiences that he worked hard for me and my family to be able to have.
Why do you think it is important to travel?
Traveling allows you to experience and learn about new cultures. It is also a great way to spend time on self-care and exploration.
What piece of advice would you like to share with those who want to travel but aren't sure how to?
You just have to do it, plan a group trip, google activities available in the state/country you chose. Start locally if you need to, make a trip to the city just outside of yours and explore. I would also say suggest exploring travel retreats, which might take the worry out of having to try to figure out excursions and you can meet new people to travel with.
What do you want your legacy to be?
My legacy is going to be creating space for women of color to work on their growth and cultivate their inner greatness!
Well, there you have it! Short and sweet! This was one of my favorites! Thank you, Rachael!
