If you are new here, I have begun a series called Aspire to Inspire since January 2017 where I feature young, Black and Hispanic Women who travel while running their own businesses. All who have been featured have someway been aligned in relation to my own life. Meet Dr. Annika Barnett. All I will also say about her is black does not crack! For those who don't know, I used to live in Maryland. Let's read about where Dr. Annika has traveled.
Tell us about yourself. What do you do?
My name is Annika and I currently live in Baltimore, Maryland. I am a 29-year-old physician currently working at Johns Hopkins as a resident in Pediatrics and Anesthesia. I started my blog in order to have a creative outlet outside of my demanding occupation. My blog emphasizes achieving the work-life balance which I think is very important for overall wellness.
What city do you hail from and what do you like most about your hometown?
I am originally from Raleigh, North Carolina. I love Raleigh because it is a very relaxed city with lots of great restaurants. Additionally, it is easy to travel to the beach or the mountains given it's centrally located in North Carolina; so it is a great city to live in if you like road trips.
Where were your favorite places to travel to in the world and why?
I love places with rich history and culture along with effortlessly picturesque landscapes. That is why Rome, Italy and Santorini, Greece are my favorite destinations at this point. In addition, their food is amazing!
Why do you think it is important to travel?
Travel exposes you to different cultures and practices that not only increases your knowledge of the world but helps you grow as a person. Travel is also a great way to escape the demands of everyday life for a moment and just enjoy your surroundings.
What do you want your legacy to be?
This is a great question! I want to show others that you can have it all. You can have a successful career and also have an enriching life outside of work. For me, travel serves as a great way to enrich my life outside of work and I want to expose others to the amazing experiences you can have when you travel.
Anything else you would like to add for those who want to travel but aren't sure how to?
Just do it! Buy that plane ticket you have been agonizing over. Take your dream trip. The experience will well be worth the cost.
